Research Institutes
TMC has been working with world-renowned research facilities across the globe for over 25 years. Our centralised filtration systems are ideally suited, with their small space-saving modular design making them an ideal plug-and-play solution. Our advanced low-energy LED lighting systems, combined with our world-leading lighting control systems, are designed to support animal welfare by providing the ideal spectrum, intensity, and photoperiod control for the animals in your care. Through the years of working with highly demanding requirements, we have developed a world-leading lighting solution that will meet any research needs.
Monitoring & Control
Monitoring and controlling water parameters is crucial for research institutes. Accurate water quality management ensures the integrity of experiments and the health of aquatic organisms. Key parameters such as pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, and conductivity should be continuously monitored, which can be achieved by using simple test kits, or by using advanced monitoring and control equipment with sensors. These systems provide real-time data, enabling researchers to make informed decisions and maintain optimal conditions for their studies. Furthermore, automated control systems can adjust parameters dynamically, ensuring stability and consistency, and data logging helps in tracking long-term trends and identifying potential issues before they become critical.
News & Case Studies
StAR project - Restore Zebra Sharks in Raja Ampat, Indonesia
Seven zebra shark eggs arrived in Sorong, Indonesia, on 10 August 2022 and are now being hand-reared in local nurseries for future release into protected marine waters in Raja Ampat, as part of the global effort to safeguard the species.
StAR Project: Zebra shark eggs – The big trip
In this video, we can see the long journey of the first Zebra Shark eggs, between Sea Life Sydney Aquarium, in Australia and the arrival at the nursery in Raja Ampat, Indonesia. Up to 40 hours transit!
Biosystems launch new cutting-edge LED controller
Biosystems have, for over a decade, been manufacturing a range of biologically optimised LEDs suitable for all aspects of land based RAS, with all lights being centrally controlled via the hugely successful Biolumen Master Control Unit.
Huge Success for AquaRay and Biolumen Lighting
For around 14 years Tropical Marine Centre, and in particular the Biosystems team, has worked with the Coral Reef Lab at the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) in Southampton.
AquaMMIn-Development and validation of a modular integrated multitrophic aquaculture system for marine and brackish water species
This amazing project developed at ECOMARE – Laboratory for Innovation and Sustainability of Marine Biological Resources of University Aveiro
Optimization of microalgae production using TMC LED AquaBars
In the blue economy, as is the case in all production sectors, we look for ways to optimise our operations…often with an eye on reducing our overheads, increasing production (either quantity and/or quality) as well as reducing our environmental impact.
Allison Creek Brood Trout Station LED
The government run Allison Creek Brood Trout Station in Alberta, Canada has used AquaRay tiles and BioLumen control for nearly 2 years with great effect to synchronize spawning of captive trout breeders in order to supply eyed eggs to provincial fish hatcheries.
Reef Pulsar lights installed in the new coral reef research lab, University of Southampton
Just received the first pictures of the new coral lab at the University of Southampton’s National Oceanography Centre, showing our new Reef Pulsar SP8 fixtures mounted over the system’s 15 tanks.
CIIMAR - Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research
We are extremely proud to be a part of this amazing research centre: CIIMAR - Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (Porto, Portugal)...Powered by Biosystems recirculation systems (RAS).
Titan Technology has arrived...
The new UV units from Biosystems, now photocatalytically enhanced, are up to a third more effective at sterilisation than a standard UV system.
